Extreme fatigue is one of the most common and most difficult symptoms of Lyme disease, and unfortunately, it can persist even when other symptoms have subsided. This may be partly a post-infectious phenomenon, associated with persistent activation of the immune system and involvement of the nervous system. In many cases, persistent Borrelia infection has been detected behind chronic fatigue that does not go away.
Experience shows that in many cases there is improvement, but not overnight. It is important to consciously manage your workload (avoid the “overwork-collapse” cycle), get adequate sleep, adopt a lifestyle that reduces inflammation, and have your treatment reviewed from time to time.
So yes, it can improve, but usually gradually – and a well-adjusted, personalised treatment and lifestyle balance are key. If the fatigue persists after several months, it may be worth confirming the presence of the infection and consulting a doctor who is knowledgeable about Lyme disease.
